Julia Staniszewska (born 1978)
A visual artist. Authoress of many interesting artistic projects that have been successfully received in major galleries both in Poland and abroad. Using documentary photography, she is able to build poetry from everyday life.
She is interested in analysis of the urban tissue surrounding the urban population, such as human lives in apartment blocks. In her recent works she has raised difficult topics, often associated with her own experience or experiences of her loved ones. She uses a variety of media – primarily photography, as well as installation and sculpture.
She graduated from the media department at the Ecole Nationale Superieure des Beaux-Arts in Paris. In France, Julia was a member of ‘des Territories’ group of artists, for which she worked from 2001-2005. From 2005 she has lived and worked in Warsaw.
Julia Staniszewska has participated in many exhibitions in Poland and abroad: including The Louvre: A côté un rêve un sphinx accroupi in 2004, in Paris; PROGR: A place I know well in 2008, in Bern; Zachęta: She – Documentalists – Polish Women Photographers in 2008, in Warsaw; at the New Theatre: Undiscovered/Unspeakable in 2009; X Apartments in 2010 (in cooperation with Marysia Stoklosa) in Warsaw; and CSW: Concrete Heritage, From Le Corbusier to blockers in 2007 in Warsaw.
Since 2007, she has been co-author and curator (with Agnieszka Sural) of the Witryna Gallery in Warsaw.
She is also a two-time scholarship holder from the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage.
