Opening of the Exhibition “Chemare” – March 20, 2025!

Date: March 20, 2025
Location: Archeology of Photography Foundation, Warsaw
Time: 6:00 PM

We are delighted to invite you to the opening of the “Chemare” exhibition, which will take place on Thursday, March 20, 2025, at 6:00 PM at the Archaeology of Photography Foundation in Warsaw!

This unique project, developed in collaboration with the Romanian Forum of Visual Arts (FAV), is unfolding simultaneously in four countries: Poland, Romania, Moldova, and Italy. “Chemare” is more than just an exhibition – it is an open space for dialogue about migration, memory, and identity.

What Does “Chemare” Mean?

In Romanian, “chemare” refers to an inner impulse that drives us to act. This very impulse has pushed people to migrate over the decades—sometimes by choice, sometimes out of necessity. The project explores what motivated Europeans to embark on long journeys during times of political and economic hardship.

  • How did migration look in the 1920s compared to the early 21st century?
  • How have Poland and Romania come to know and understand each other through the experiences of their migrants?
  • How can photographs and archival documents tell these stories?

An Exhibition Created by You!

This is a participatory project – YOU help shape this exhibition! From the very beginning, we have invited the public to contribute their photographs, postcards, travel documents, and memories related to journeys before the year 2000. Every submission becomes part of the exhibition, enriching the shared narrative of migration and intercultural connections.

Submissions are open until March 26! The collected materials will not only be included in the exhibition but will also serve as a foundation for further research on migration history and future editions of the project in other countries.

What Will You See at the Exhibition?

The exhibition features a combination of archival photographs, postcards, travel documents, and contemporary interpretations of migration, created by Romanian artists Alexandra Dumitrescu and Ana-Cristina Irian.

Through photography, installations, and video art, the artists explore themes of identity, memory, and the need for cultural exchange. How have freedom and forced migration shaped Polish-Romanian relations over the decades? We seek answers in images, documents, and personal testimonies.

Why Should You Attend?

  • Experience a unique meeting of art, history, and photography.
  • Your own stories can become part of the exhibition!
  • An opportunity to talk with the artists and curators of the project.
  • Together, we will create an archive of memory and identity.

Don’t miss the opening! Join us on March 20 at 6:00 PM at the Archaeology of Photography Foundation to immerse yourself in the history of migration that continues to shape us today.

We look forward to seeing you there!
