Social Center for Photography in 2024

As every year, we present you the Social Center for Photography in numbers! Thank you for creating with us the Social Center for Photography in 2024. At Chlodna 20, and sometimes outside our headquarters, you were able to take part in numerous exhibitions, lectures, photo walks, workshops and other photographic initiatives. Here they are:

2 historical exhibitions based on the collection of the Archeology of Photography Foundation (FAF) at its headquarters on Chlodna 20: “Where is the Original? Art in Photography”, 17.05 – 30.06.2024 at FAF gallery on Chlodna 20, curated by Mikołaj Chmielinski / FAF; ”Photography Beyond Eealism”, 26.09-10.11.2024 at FAF gallery on Chlodna 20, curated by Weronika Kobylinska / FAF;

1 exhibition of contemporary photography – “NO.12”, organized by graduates of the Sputnik Photos Mentorship Program;

10 works presented at the art showcase on Chlodna 20, by the following artists: Dominik Tomaszczuk, Kate Ignashevich, Roman Koziel, Natalia Kolbiarz, Jozefina Tomaszewska, Karolina Maliszewska, Gleb Burnashev, Anna Zagrodzka, Dagmara Baranska-Morzy, Klaudia Majewska;

1 exhibition “Dłubak x Zaradny: Non finito”, 18.12.2024 – 30.05.2025 at Studio Gallery in the Palace of Culture and Science in Warsaw, curated by Weronika Kobylińska / FAF, Dorota Jarecka / Studio Gallery, Paulina Olszewska / Studio Gallery;

2 lectures on the history of photography accompanying the exhibitions: A lecture by the Director of the State Ethnographic Museum in Warsaw, Magdalena Wróblewska, on the colonial entanglement of photographic reproduction, and a lecture by Marta Ziętkiewicz on Aleksandra Garlicka’s photographic exhibitions at the Zachęta gallery in the process of social and political change (1985-1995)

2 lectures to groups of students about the activities of the Foundation and the Social Center for Photography, along with a commentary on the current exhibition;

2 curatorial tours of exhibitions with translation into Polish Sign Language;

12 months of service to the archives of the Archeology of Photography Foundation, along with support for external institutional and private queries;

12 months of operating the reading room;

350 new cataloged books available online in the inventory on the website;

As part of the Neighborhood Program (Program sąsiedzki) in cooperation with the Cultural Center of Wola (Wolskie Centrum Kultury), a photo walk around Wola and a workshop for children “In the lens of Maria Chrząszczowa and Zofia Chomętowska – discovering the archives of Polish women photographers” took place;

portfolio review hosted by Sputnik Photos;

3 students admitted to the Archeology of Photography Foundation internship program;

12 months of permanent promotional activity in social media of the Social Center for Photography, FAF, Sputnik Photos (Instagram, Facebook), as well as running promotional campaigns in the press, radio, on media in public transport on the occasion of exhibitions;

2 photo walks around Old Bielany and Żerań led by Jan Brykczyński and Adam Pańczuk;

Workshop in the digitizing studio as part of the Archifest festival organized by the Centre of Community Archives, 07.06.2024, by: Weronika Kobylińska, Alicja Lesiów;

Exhibition of photographs by Tadeusz Sumiński and Ryszard Białous, organized in cooperation with the Archives of New Files at the Norblin Factory in Warsaw on the occasion of the 80th anniversary of the Warsaw Uprising, 03.08.2024 – 02.10.2024;

Exhibition “Mariusz Hermanowicz. All Traces” organized as part of the 10th Vintage Photo Festival in Bydgoszcz, Bydgoszcz Art Center, 14.09-13.10.2024, curatorial team: Weronika Kobylinska, Alicja Lesiów, Mikolaj Chmielinski;

The exhibition “Factory of Illusions. Photographs by Danuta Rago,” which was shown as part of the Social Center for Photography program in 2023 at the FAF gallery on Chlodna 20, was presented again at the 21st Rybnik Foto Festival, 3.09-30.11.2024, curated by Weronika Kobylinska;

At the Social Center for Photography at 20 Chlodna Street, FAF hosted the exhibition “Freedom. Body. Resistance” by Romanian institution Visual Arts Forum, 5-12.09.2024, curated by Raluca Oancea, Weronika Kobylińska

Free digitization training for museum professionals and digitizers, 16.10.2024, conducted by Andrzej Daniluk;

we have launched a podcast which episodes tell about photographs stored in the FAF archive. The first season of the podcast (9 episodes) featured the stories of prominent photographers Zofia Chomętowska, Maria Chrząszczowa, Danuta Rago, Zofia Nasierowska, Zofia Raczkowska and Joanna Helander. The podcast can be listened to on Spotify, YouTube and the FAF website.

We probably didn’t manage to write out all our initiatives, but we tried very hard. If you missed something in 2024, follow our activities in 2025. Please join us at the Social Center for Photography!
